"urban oasis - quiet living amidst the suburban rhythm"
concept development
project story

context

The site is very special as it is surrounded by a cantonal road on one side and a highway and a trainline on the opposite. These sensitive location conditions have defined a main driver for our conceptual approach. On the other hand, we were extensively inspired by the local monastery, which translates into an introverted design approach where all buildings surround a courtyard.

CONCEPT

The design consists of differentiated building blocks that harmonize with the suburban context through thoughtful height variations and strategic positioning. A taller block near the town center establishes a strong address and landmark, while lower volumes at the entrance create a welcoming transition. The courtyard layout serves as the heart of the project, offering sunlight and high-quality living environment, with all residential units oriented towards it for optimal light, views, and privacy. To address noise from the highway, a carefully positioned block acts as a buffer while maintaining visual and spatial openness. This arrangement ensures a balance between functionality and livability, offering distinct addresses, a coherent urban presence, and a vibrant courtyard space for community life. The result is a development that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings while enhancing residential quality.

CONTENT

The project is planned to split the full block into individual building structures that allow for great flexibility of use and phasing, allowing a sequenced development and further possibilities of program adaptation. Through small variations in size, material surfaces and colors, each building is given a distinctive address and identity. Nevertheless, these differences are studied and proposed to result in a cohesive harmonious overall treatment.
