"Bright. Open. Wide. LIVING in the Green"
project story

context

The property for the new apartment building is located in the municipality of Oberwil, a green suburb of Basel. A trees avenue leads directly from the village center to the top of the hill where the residence is located. The view from the site opens between protected old trees towards a typical Swiss natural landscape and the villages of Arlesheim and Dornach.

CONCEPT

The project’s minimalistic concept is materialized with a central communication& organizational core and design of elegantly extended slabs that shape unequal terraces expanding the internal space, providing specific solar shading and framing to panoramic views. The stacked floor slabs work as floating white surfaces providing both openness and privacy for flexible contemporary living. To acquire specific natural scenery and a proper light environment, each living function faces its own desired orientation with a view into the green surroundings.

CONTENT

The building consists of a plinth with parking, two apartment floors above, and a penthouse with a 360 degrees view and a terrace.  Two of the three apartments are duplexes that offer maximal view and light through the big floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The building’s core and supporting structure are made of white reinforced concrete, visible as the apartments’ ceiling and the underside of the terraces, which contrast with the wooden floors. The entire perimeter of the house is enclosed by glass, providing natural light in all living spaces: the living room, bedrooms, and kitchen making a connection between the internal land external environment.
