GRUNER&FRIENDS designed Borgo Miranda, the 5-star hotel resort in the ticinese village of Monte Brè. Monte Brè is situated on a 1.4 hectare mountainous site above the towns of Locarno and Ascona. It enjoys views towards the south over the Lago Maggiore. The village of Monte Brè consist of single houses dispersed evenly across the landscape, without a center to connect them.

Our objective is to create a hotel resort as a new village that integrates into the existing structure of Monte Brè. The vision is to create a new center, with village-like qualities to serve the local population as well as the hotel guests.  This 5-star hotel resort has 17 hotel suites and 53 hotel apartments, two restaurants, bar, spa with indoor and outdoor pools, bakery, café/bar, conference rooms and kids club.

We collect data from the site and its environment in order to create, evaluate and optimize our designs. This data focuses on views, surfaces, and costs. This method allows us to create valuable spaces, smarter designs, and enjoyable atmospheres.  We can then quantitatively evaluate the various iterations generated, select the best and ensure architecture of optimal quality with regards to: views, interior-exterior spaces, circulation and materials.
