"WETTINGEN: GATEWAY LIVINGhub for sharing and connections"

concept development
project story
context
The site in Wettingen, near the railroad station, is going to be transformed into a residential area that includes commercial offerings. The surroundings have good infrastructure: schools, healthcare facilities, and stores. Its proximity to the train station makes it attractive for young professionals, families, students, and retirees who want convenient access to Zurich. The site is between two types of neighborhoods: quieter residential buildings along Seminarstrasse and urban, lively buildings along Güterstrasse. The development aims to preserve the unique characteristics of these contrasting areas.
CONCEPT
The project aims to create vibrant spaces in both the outer courtyard areas and inner atrium spaces, encouraging social interactions and encounters. The objective was to enhance the existing public square and introduce greenery along the streets, transforming the entire station area into a community hub. The concept for the project includes a different approach along Güterstrasse, planning the buildings facing the station square with a mix of retail and dining options to invite pedestrians to linger. The façades reflect the surrounding architecture, creating different atmospheres along the two different streets.
CONTENT
The buildings are designed with consideration for sunlight, providing as well panoramic views. Four buildings with 125 apartments are being designed, each apartment has a balcony or loggia, and some units can be converted into commercial or retail space. This project aims to achieve sustainability certifications and promote green design by using CO2-reduced or recycled materials like hybrid wood-concrete construction. Additionally, the project aims to enhance the site with green infrastructure to support biodiversity and address climate change.
