"an urban new type of livingspace combining modern living with working space "

concept development
project story
context
The current building, situated in the vibrant city of Zurich, serves as an office space but bears the marks of its age, necessitating a comprehensive renovation and remodeling project. The main objective at hand is to breathe new life into this structure by undertaking a transformative approach. The vision entails converting the existing office building into a mixed-use development that seamlessly integrates both residential and commercial spaces. Through meticulous planning and innovative design, this revitalization project seeks to combine the functionalities of living and working within the confines of this architectural gem.
CONCEPT
At the core of this project lies a compelling concept that involves a deconstruction of the existing building, stripping it down to its structure, while infusing it with a fresh and contemporary facade. By embarking on this ambitious endeavor, the aim is to establish a building that integrates with its surroundings. It is worth noting that the existing structure, from ground floor to the third floor, will be carefully preserved, however, the fourth floor will undergo a transformation, as it will be demolished and replaced with two stories of lightweight timber construction. This innovative approach will not only imbue the building with a modern and sustainable touch but also enhance its functionality and adaptability to meet contemporary needs.
CONTENT
On the ground floor, studios with their own private entrances invite residents to come in and make themselves at home. Above them, simple flats for singles and students offer comfortable and affordable living space. The upper duplex flats are the crown jewels of the building, with generous outdoor spaces and stunning views. Duplex 02 is particularly noteworthy, with its own private roof terrace that feels like a private oasis in the heart of the city. In total, the building has 42 flats, each one unique and designed to meet the needs of its residents. The existing column grid of 3.2 meters is retained throughout the building, providing a strong and flexible foundation for the different types of flats.
